Who We Are
SAASTEC (RF) NPC 2008/024977/08 was established to stimulate interest, create a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing among science and technology centres in Southern Africa and promote science engagement that is inclusive, accessible and impactful.
Our Vision
To assist in creating a technologically based Southern African society which will ensure a competitive edge in the global economy.
Our Mission
To contribute to the improvement of life of the Southern African region by improving scientific knowledge and skills through the utilisation of interactive living science and technology centres.

Aims and objectives

To act as a coordinative, representative and facilitative forum for science centres.

To act as a voice for the network of science centres on issues relating to Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) communication, education, propagation and engagement.

To serve as a vehicle through which science centres can engage with, inform, implement and influence SET and Mathematics, Science and Technology (MST) policies.

To represent the network of science centres and its affiliate in key stakeholders’ relations; that is, with government, parastatals, industry and international relations, and with other continental science centre associations in particular.

To assist with establishing science centres in and providing mobile sciences to rural and under-resourced areas.

To support and facilitate the linking of the science centres to schools and formal education, the upgrading of science teachers’ practical teaching skills, the formation of science clubs at schools and the promotion of careers in science and technology.

To assist science centres with issues relating to capacity building, resource development and management, evaluating impact and fundraising.
